Next to them you can find the highest density of ancient chestnut trees, which is something really special. Some of them are protected as Special Trees, as in the case of the Corbiche chestnut tree.

You can see them even from the forest track that leads up the mountain to cross towards the neighbouring Jerte Valley. This is a very good trail for biking, although you will need to have strong legs, as the ascent is quite long.

And if you want to relax, we recommend you to go for a walk thorough the chestnut and olive trees in the terraces. One of the main attractions in Casas del Monte is the natural pool hemmed in the Garganta Ancha, at the upper side of the village.

As for its Roman past, you can visit the remains of the Roman villa Granjuela, as well as winepresses and anthropomorphic tombs. Its beautiful traditional architecture can be clearly seen at the quarters Lanchas Altozano and Hondón, the Chorro street and Morales Square.

Its most famous products are fruits, cherries and strawberries, and also the local cheese made there.

Casas del Monte is ideally located to practice paragliding, as it has a marked point that, at the same time, is one of the best viewpoints you will find to watch a beautiful sunset.

If you want to go for a walk, you can go up the mountains by following the track that leaves from the natural pool towards the chestnut trees or ever farther to the viewpoint. You can also choose going down towards the old train station and go for a nice walk on a level ground along the Vía Verde.
